Harry Potter books and films have an enthused group of followers in many countries
I am always impressed by the big international vogue of the Harry Potter books. The Harry Potter books were written by the British writer J.K. Rowling. She saw the light of day on 31 July 1965. Her complete name is Joanne Rowling. But she writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling because in the beginning her publisher thought it was a beneficial move not to reveal the aspect that she is a woman. The publishing house thought it might have a negative effect on the sales numbers if everybody immediately sees that the writer is a woman. Consequently, instead of showing her first name she used two letters. As she has no middle name she took Kathleen as basis for the K. in her abbreviation. Kathleen is the name of her grandma.
The very first Harry Potter book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone – was publicized in June 1997 in in Great Britain. Quite funny is the aspect that only thousand pieces of the first novel were publicized at that time. The original title of the novel was not Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, but Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. But when the novel was published to the US market place in the year 1998, it was published as Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.
After that J.K. Rowling wrote several more Harry Potter books. Finally the Harry Potter series consists of a total of 7 stories. These are:
- Novel 1: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
- Novel 2: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Novel 3: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Novel 4: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
- Novel 5: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
- Novel 6: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
- Novel 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
The Harry Potter novels have been translated into over sixty-five languages and have been released in a lot of countries. Besides the huge success in the United States and the United Kingdom, Harry Potter is also very popular in the European Union. The Harry Potter books (German book store: Harry Potter Buecher Shop) have been published to the German audience under these headers:
- Buch 1: Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen
- Buch 2: Harry Potter und die Kammer des Schreckens
- Buch 3: Harry Potter und der Gefangene von Askaban
- Buch 4: Harry Potter und der Feuerkelch
- Buch 5: Harry Potter und der Orden des Phoenix
- Buch 6: Harry Potter und der Halbblutprinz
- Buch 7: Harry Potter und die Heiligtuemer des Todes
I must admit that I did not have the time to read all those stories. But there are fans who know them all, which is very fascinating and contributes to the big success.
